0x Society, Canada's first ever crypto art gallery, is proud to present a brand new exhibition entitled 'Circular Stories'. In collaboration with Produkt and SuperRare, this solo exhibition features 12 conceptual works by New York-based artist Gavin Shapiro. Gavin Shapiro is a digital artist whose ultimate goal is to produce work that makes people smile. He focuses primarily on playful conceptual works that explore how we can use digital tools to confront our expectations of what is possible in a traditionally physical art world.
The exhibition 'Circular Stories' invites visitors to explore the captivating world of infinite loops through Shapiro's own narratives and techniques to challenge the expectations of the traditional art world.
Shapiro has spent most of his career working as a motion graphics designer, focusing primarily on 3D design and animation. He started in 2009 doing motion graphics and visual effects for The Onion, and since then has had a dynamic career working at various studios and agencies, and even spent a few years working abroad in Paris and Osaka. He has worked on television shows, commercials and outdoor displays, among others. His personal work has been used as visuals at music festivals and concerts around the world and has been displayed on digital panels at art exhibitions in New York, Paris and Tokyo. In mid-2020, he was brought into the world of NFTs and since then has focused almost full-time on creating personal works.
Shapiro wants to make people step back and say, "Wait, how does this work? How did he do that? Why did he do that?" He loves math and optical illusions and enjoys the problem solving it takes to successfully construct a visual puzzle as he presents. He often incorporates a comedic element into his art, often in the form of dancing penguins or flamingos. He believes that humor is crucial, and he always tries to do something that will make people laugh or smile. Gavin also strives to create something that is technically flawless and a puzzle for the viewer to decipher. He wants people to look at his work and wonder how he achieved it.
Optical illusions and mathematics have been a great source of inspiration for Gavin, and he uses his skills and experience as a graphic designer to create something new for visitors. Thus, his style emerges from the absurdity of combining something seemingly mundane with a complex technique.
